HUD Rules Threaten $32M Maricopa Homeless Funding

A coalition of federal and local officials, including Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, Vice Mayor Doreen Garlid Tempe, and Representative Greg Stanton, addressed new guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The guidance could result in Maricopa County losing more than half of its federal homelessness funding, amounting to $32 million in assistance. This funding currently supports 1,388 families, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and individuals with disabilities, including more than 1,000 seniors and 600 children. Tempe residents have supported homeless services, as reflected in the Community Survey for over three years. An event discussing these issues was held, with further details available through a linked video.
