OSU EMS Cookout Celebrates Annual EMS Week
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center hosted its annual EMS Cookout from May 20 to May 22 as part of the 51st Annual EMS Week celebrations. Staff from the center for EMS and the emergency department prepared hamburgers, hotdogs, s'mores, and more for EMS personnel to enjoy.
Brutus Buckeye made an appearance, visiting with medics and EMTs and exploring Columbus Fire Engine 25 and Ladder 13. Lt. Kenneth Peters from Station 25 expressed his appreciation for the recognition from hospital staff.
Monica Keirns, Manager of the Center for Emergency Medical Services at OSU, stated the event provided an opportunity to give back to EMS professionals in the community with food, giveaways, and celebration.
EMS Week was first established on November 4, 1974, by President Gerald Ford, and later revived in 1982 by the American College of Emergency Physicians. The observance moved to the third week of May in 1992.
