Maricopa County, Arizona, is celebrating the significant recovery of the state's bald eagle population this 4th of July. A long-standing partnership between Maricopa County and the Arizona Game & Fish Department has contributed to this success. In the 1970s, the state was home to only 25 nests, but today there are more than 100 nests across Arizona.

Each spring, wildlife biologists descend into eagle nests to monitor the birds. Their work includes banding young eagles, removing hazards such as fishing line, and checking for parasites to ensure that the birds remain healthy.

The cooperative efforts and dedicated conservation work highlight the county's commitment to protecting these birds at Lake Pleasant Regional Park and surrounding areas.
